Season Highlights

Regular Season

  • Led by Head Coach Helen Barnett, the Bulldogs went 8-1-1 in the regular season schedule.  The only regular season loss was a 22-18 loss to Shawnee Mission (now Shawnee Mission North).

    • A key win was a 37-22 defeat of Shawnee Mission that was a rematch of the season’s only loss.  Wyandotte tied Eudora 22-22 for the season’s only tie.
       

City Championship Tournament

  • In the City Championship Tournament, Wyandotte defeated Rosedale and the Baraca Camels in the first two rounds, before edging the Criterions 27-26 for the City Championship.

 

District Tournament

  • In the District Tournament, Wyandotte defeated Overland Park and DeSoto, in the first two rounds before defeating Shawnee Mission for the District Championship.

 

State Tournament @ Stanley High School

  • In the State Tournament held at Stanley High School, Wyandotte defeated Rosedale and Overland Park before facing Shawnee Mission in the championship game.  In the title game, Wyandotte defeated Shawnee Mission for the 3rd time in 4 meetings by the score of 33-26 to earn the state championship. 

    • The Bulldogs’ Mary Frush was named captain of the All-State team. 

    • Frush was joined by Irene Wessel and Jean Elliott on the All-State 1st team. 

    • Ruth Fine, Anna Graham, and Virginia Olsen earned 2nd team All-State honors.

Virginia Olsen (Class of 1926)

  • Forward.

  • Earned 2nd team All-State honors.

 

Jean Elliott (Class of 1925)

  • Forward / transferred from Bonner Springs

  • Earned 1st Team All-State honors. 

  • Scored the game-winning free throws in the one-point City Championship win over the Criterions.

 

Ruth Fine (Class of 1924)

  • Center.

  • Earned 2nd team All-State honors.

 

Irene Gerlecz (Class of 1925)

  • Guard/Center.

 

Dorothy Beggs (Class of 1927)

  • Forward.

 

Helen Filkin (Class of 1925)

  • Forward / Transferred from Bonner Springs.

 

Anna Graham (Class of 1924)

  • Guard.

  • Earned 2nd team All-State honors.

 

Ruth Wilcox (Class of 1925)

  • Guard.

 

Claudene Stone (Class of 1925)

  • Center.

 

Irene Wessel (Class of 1926)

  • Center.

  • Earned 1st Team All-State honors.

 

Dorothy Miller (Class of 1924)

  • Center/Forward.
