Season Highlights

Regular Season

  • The Wyandotte Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 15-5 record.

 

State Tournament @ Whiting Field House @ Washburn University in Topeka

  • In the first round, Wyandotte defeated the Augusta Orioles 36-13.

  • In the quarterfinals, Wyandotte defeated the Quinter Bulldogs 38-17.

  • In the semifinals, Wyandotte defeated the Hutchinson Salthawks 23-14.

  • In the finals, Wyandotte defeated the Newton Railers 17-9 earning their 1st state title since 1923.

    • The 1930 state tournament was the first ever held in Topeka.

    • The state championship game was broadcast live for the first time by a radio station, Topeka’s WIBW.

    • Was named Honorary Captain after his 1931 senior season.

    • Earned All-State honors as a forward.
       

  • Roy Bloskey (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Contributed as a forward.
       

  • Frank Mapes (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Earned his second letter as a starting guard.
       

  • Alfred Faus (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Earned All-State honors as a guard.
       

  • Stanley Michaels (Sophomore, Class of 1932)

    • Earned All-State honors as a center.

  • Paul Harrington (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Served as the 1st honor captain in Wyandotte basketball history.

    • Earned All-City, All-Northeast Kansas League, & All-State honors as a guard.

    • Played college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks.
       

  • John Bidnick (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Earned All-City honors.
       

  • Charles Geiger (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Earned his first letter.
       

  • Robert Tietze (Senior, Class of 1930)

    • Earned All-State honors as a forward.

    • Tietze’s son Tom Tietze (Class of 1965) competed for the 1964 State Championship team.
       

  • Percy Parks, Head Coach

    • Also served as football, baseball, and golf coach.
