Regular Season

The Wyandotte Bulldogs finished the regular season 19-0 winning both the City League and Northeast Kansas League.
Regional Tournament @ Wyandotte High School

In the semifinals, defeated the Argentine Mustangs 40-20.

In the finals, defeated the Leavenworth Pioneers 41-12.

Vincent Roberts led the Bulldogs with 12 points, Larry Trickett and Bob Wilhelm added 10 points each, and Joe Michaels added 8.

State Tournament @ Topeka High School

In the first round, Wyandotte defeated the McPherson Bullpups 20-11.

In the quarterfinals, Wyandotte defeated the Wichita East Blue Aces 24-21.

In the semifinals, Wyandotte defeated the Topeka Trojans 23-19 in overtime.

In the finals before a crowd of 3,500, Wyandotte defeated the previously unbeaten Arkansas City Bulldogs 25-16.

Arkansas City led 9-7 at half. Wyandotte took the lead 13-12 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Joe Michaels and Larry Trickett led Wyandotte with 8 points each.

Special Recognition

On the same day Wyandotte ousted Wichita East, the eventual runner-up Arkansas City Bulldogs edged the Emporia Spartans (led by Head Coach Alfred Smith), 19-18 in another quarterfinal.

In the subsequent season, Head Coach Alfred Smith led the Emporia Spartans to the 1934 Class A State Championship with a 22-15 win over the Wichita East Blue Aces. Among the players on the 1934 Spartan squad was Paul Terry, who competed that season as the first black player in the history of the Emporia Spartans program.

In 1966, Alfred Smith’s son, University of North Carolina Head Coach Dean Smith, signed future Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Charles Scott, who became the first black scholarship athlete for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
